Don’t forget to remember.
By: Pastor Kason
Scripture Text:
1Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
2Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
3Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
4Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
5Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,
his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
7He is the Lord our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.
Devotional:
Don’t forget to remember. Over and over, there is a command in the Bible: “Remember.” In the NIV translation the word “remember" is used over 180 times in the Old Testament, and over 50 in the New Testament. Most of the time, it's being given as a commandment to the reader not to forget what God has done.
In reading this passage yesterday, I began to think about things God has done in my own life. I remembered miracles I have seen. I remembered moments of experiencing His presence. I spent time remembering moments when I felt God calling me to deeper levels of devotion and relationship with Him. The most amazing thing about it all was that remembering brought me back to what I felt then. Remembering re-energized my love for God, and made me experience a deeper level of connection today. Remembering made me want to sing His praise, and proclaim His name.
Memory is powerful, and when we choose to remember what God has done for us, it can be a game changer for our devotion to him here and now. It is no wonder that in Revelation 2, John the Revelator tells the church of Ephesus that their great failing is that they have forgotten their first love, and urges them to remember and do the things they used to do.
If you don’t take time to remember, you will likely fail to stay on a path that is rooted in your love for God, and His love for you.
Don’t forget to remember.
Response/Prayer:
Father, bring me back to when I first loved you. Help me to see what I’ve forgotten, and remember all that you’ve done for me. I want to remember and praise you for all you’ve done, so I ask you to remind me of your greatness, love, and power in my life. Amen.
