Intentionally Trusting

By Gracie DarDar

Scripture Text:

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

6in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight. a

7Do not be wise in your own eyes;

fear the Lord and shun evil.

8This will bring health to your body

and nourishment to your bones.

9Honor the Lord with your wealth,

with the firstfruits of all your crops;

10then your barns will be filled to overflowing,

and your vats will brim over with new wine.

11My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,

and do not resent his rebuke,

12because the Lord disciplines those he loves,

as a father the son he delights in.

Devotional:

Did you know the earth is actually closest to the sun in the winter by about 3 million miles compared to the summer? 3 million miles sounds like a huge distance but it only impacts our climate by 3%. What impacts our climate the most is which way the earth leans. We lean towards the sun in the summer and away in the winter.

It doesn’t really matter how often you go to church or read your Bible unless you actually lean into it. You may think you’re closer to God when you go to church, but if you’re not accepting the word and actively seeking God and instead living the way you want and making decisions on your own, then you aren’t as close to God as you think. If you’re not leaning on God then you’re leaning towards the cold world instead.

Getting into a routine with reading the Bible and praying are great, but if you’re just going through the motions looking to check it off your list then you are not actively seeking and leaning on God. Tell him about all of your thoughts, all your worries, your interests, the things you’re curious about and everything else! As you lean on him and actively learn more about him then he will build up your faith and make your paths straight. Seek him with intentionality, and trust he will make every decision better than you can. Take advantage of the warmth he’ll provide you when you lean on him.

Response/Prayer:

Lord, thank you for creating this universe with such intentionality. Give me the strength and motivation to seek you every day. Help me build up my faith in you and take away my burdens as I lean on you more and more everyday. Thank you for your never ending love. Amen.
