Scripture Text: 

19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21 

Devotional:

Our phones influence us more than we know. It shows us things. Things that others have that we “need”. It shows us the newest phone technology that is way better than what we just bought last year. It shows us what celebrities and influencers are wearing and buying so we can get it too. 

Look in your closet. You most likely have more than enough clothes, yet we keep buying more, myself included. How many pairs of shoes do you own? If you are a car person, how much time and effort do you put into it? 

It’s easy to find ourselves slaves to our possessions. 

Possessed by possessions. 

We’ve all been there at one point. These earthly things don’t matter. There isn’t a single thing we can physically take with us. It’s all staying here. Jesus wants to show us that our hearts are where our treasure is. Put your heart into something that will last. Live for God and the purpose He has for you. Complete the calling. Build up your eternal treasure. It’s hard to invest in something you can’t see right now but it’ll all be worth it. 

Response/Prayer: 

Lord, thank You for blessing us way more than we deserve. I pray that we give our hearts to You every day. Help us not to be owned by our possessions. Help us to build up treasure in Heaven, and help us to influence others to do the same.
