Meditate Day and Night

By Kobe DarDar

Scripture Text:

1Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

2but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

3That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

whatever they do prospers.

4Not so the wicked!

They are like chaff

that the wind blows away.

5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 1

Devotional:

There is an important concept in this Psalm that can change the way we live our life. It is meditation. Meditation can have a lot of meanings depending on how you look at it. Meditation is being still and sitting in silence while focusing on something specific. Like most things, meditation is a tool that can be used for good or evil. Meditation itself is not evil, it is the intention behind it that determines the goodness or misuse.

So why is meditation important? Well for starters it is a repeating topic in the Bible. Jesus meditated multiple times when He walked the earth (See Luke 6 and Matthew 14). Meditation allows a time for you to sit in stillness with God. It allows you to hear Him, and let Him fill you with His presence. Meditation helps with self discipline. It helps you to grow and produce the fruit of the season you are in currently. Meditation with God does not have any negative impact. Sitting still and clearing your mind is such a positive.

You are probably “busy” right? Everyone is, it’s what makes us seem important. Being overbooked is the norm. Do not get me wrong, we all have things to do and we shouldn’t be lazy, but don’t let life make you believe you don’t have time for God. That is one way the devil tricks us. He gets us so busy we never have time for God. We have to make sure our priorities are straight and realize what really is important.

I want to challenge you:

Take 10 minutes out of your day at any point and find a quiet, peaceful place. Maybe take some earplugs and sit in silence. Put your focus on God. See what He says and where that takes you.

Response/Prayer:

Lord, thank You for this life You have given us. Thank You for free will. I pray that we choose to take some time and meditate with You. I pray You do a radical work in our hearts. Please fill us with Your peace. Please help us to be open to what You have to say, and help us to be obedient with Your commands. We love You, and thank You for loving us.

Amen
