"Sharpen Your Spiritual Edge"
Hearing The Voice of God
by Pastor James Laughlin
One thing that remains distinct to me about growing up is the voice of my mother. I can still hear her calling me, reminding me, encouraging me, and teaching me those valuable lessons of life. That infamous word "s-u-p-p-e-r" was welcomed by a ravaging stomach and caused an immediate response.
What I appreciated most about my mother’s voice is how it reassured me of her presence and her ability to guide me. Now that I am older, I have a greater respect for the times she warned and protected me from things that could misdirect my life. Thanks Mom!
Since I have committed my life to Christ, I am in need of hearing another voice. A voice that directs, guides, and empowers my spiritual walk. I have learned to embrace and count on hearing the voice of God.
Many people wonder if God still speaks today. In the book of Revelation, it is mentioned seven times in chapters 2 and 3, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." This is written in the present tense.
God still speaks today, and desires to speak personally to each of us. If we make an effort to hear the voice of God, He will reveal his will for our life and like Jesus, we will do those things that please our Heavenly Father.

"Sharpen Your Spiritual Edge"
What Are You Waiting For?
Pastor James Laughlin
A lot of us are self starters. We are driven to accomplish and love to succeed in the things of life. We live in a society that is constantly on the move with a speed that is often beyond our capability to keep up with.
But in the midst of all the busyness, sometimes we’re forced to wait for things. We wait for our microwave, wait to be seated in a restaurant, wait at the airport, for a bus, to get our car fixed ....
But are we waiting for the right things? We need to pay attention to the speed of our lives or else we will become spiritually bankrupt. Isaiah 40:30-31 exhorts us to slow down and make every effort to depend upon God. "Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint." (NKJ)
One way you can sharpen the spiritual edge of your walk is to wait upon the Lord. Here are some things to consider when waiting upon the Lord; Admit you are weary, and need to slow down to let God renew your strength. Actively seek Him before you make decisions, or take action, rely upon His guidance and direction. Acknowledge that God’s grace can carry you when life’s circumstances have worn you out spiritually.
I challenge you to take five minutes each day this week to slow down the speed of life and be still before God. Take one scripture daily to meditate on and you will sharpen your spiritual edge.
